Yeast infection is a very prevalent condition that causes extreme irritation and also affects our social life by making us uncomfortable from within. As a practicing therapist, I have seen many such cases and advised many of them What I believe is strong antibiotics do more harm than good in these cases. I recommend simple home remedies for the same. Here are a few of the yeast infection remedies that I have tested on my patients and I would like to review them honestly here for your benefit.
Yoghurt:
Yoghurt is not just a tasty food for daily consumption, but also a very effective yeast infection remedy. It is because the friendly bacteria found in yoghurt kills off the yeast in the affected area. For vaginal infection, I often advise female patients to dip a tampon in yoghurt and insert it in the affected area. But in any case don’t make the mistake of using sweetened yoghurt as sugar feeds the yeast and makes it stronger.
Apple cider vinegar:
Apple cider vinegar is very effective against yeast infection but I have noticed that it is too strong to be used directly as it burns the skin. I advise warm baths with a few drops of vinegar in it and it really works.
Garlic:
I often tell my patients to consume a clove of garlic a day to stay away from ailments. It has many medicinal properties and you also paste it and apply externally. It is a very effective anti fungal agent and so bear with the pungent odour and let it kill off the yeast.
Tea Tree Oil & Oil of Oregano & others:
These are two more easily available items that can be directly applied on the effected area and which have proven to be excellent yeast infection remedies. I have also found a mix of olive leaf extract and grape seeds extract with water to be very effective against yeast infection if you drink it regularly.
Boric Acid:
Coming to chemical compounds, boric acid is a known antiseptic as well as anti fungal agent. But on the flip side, it is very toxic and should never be used internally and I have seen painful experiences when it came into contact with open wounds. So I recommend it only in extreme cases and would advise you to use it with caution.
