Dahn Yoga or Dahnhak yoga (Dahn = primal, vital energy, Hak = study of a particular theory or philosophy, Dahnhak is the study of energy (Ki, Chi) and how to use it for personal empowerment by restoring mind-body communication based on brain.) is a new yoga system founded in Korea and quickly exported to America. The first Dahn Yoga center was opened in 1985 in Seoul, Korea and the first Dahn Yoga center in America in 1991. There has been a lot of criticism about this new kind of yoga with some accusing its associated organizations of cult status.

What is Dahn Yoga?

According to their own website Dahn Yoga is “is a holistic health and training program that empowers individuals to manage their own bodies well in order to become more healthy, happy and peaceful. Dahn Yoga Centers accomplish this mission through the creation of tools to foster the health and well-being of the individual, family and society as a whole. Dahn Yoga emphasizes the brain because it is the thing that creates and controls every aspect of human life. Health, feeling and experience, physical movement, motivation and purpose- all of these are based on brain activity. All life can be improved by better use of our brains.” Some have called it a blend of yoga, martial arts and tai chi.

Dahn Yoga and the controversy

As said before Dahn Yoga has been significant criticized, the Dahn center of course denies any accusation but when you go look online there are some unsatisfied customers and the words like Scientology can be read often. other words are suppression of individuality and criticizes the cost of “high-level courses,” citing several programs costing thousands of dollars.

We have not tried Dahn Yoga ourselves but after reading some of the stuff online we think you should be careful and use your common sense. Be careful with going to a individual introductory Dahn Yoga Session (we know these tactics from Scientology) do not go alone, always take a friend with you and do not let you talk in to any high costs.
